But at the very end, George spots the Statue of Liberty and realizes that they have been on earth the entire time and actually have traveled into the future. It’s still considered one of the most brilliant twist endings in movie history which is unsurprising, given that it was written by Rod Serling, who wrote for and hosted The Twilight Zone.
